Directors
Profile
Phil Allen
Phil has a long association with baseball in Australia dating back to
the early 1980's when he first represented Victoria in the Claxton Shield
competition. Subsequent to that time Phil has been involved in most levels
of the game within Australia. During the ABL years Phil served on the
coaching staff of the Melbourne Monarchs. More recently he has held coaching
and administrative roles at both State & National levels. Phil was
the head coach of the victorious Victorian Claxton Shield team in 2002
and continued in that role thru the 2004 season before taking up a coaching
appointment with the Australian Provincial team, a role he is still active
in. Phil has coached and managed on both the Australian AA & AAA teams
and remains on the coaching staff at the MLB sponsored Australian Academy
(MLBAAP), a position he has held since 2002 and is currently the Hitting
Co-ordinator for that program. Phil also represents the Colorado Rockies
organisation as a scout within Australia.
Brett
Ward
Brett, likewise, has a long association with Australian baseball at both
Junior & Senior levels. Brett represented both Victoria & Australia
with distinction over many years and continued his playing career in the
newly formed ABL in 1989. Brett was captain of the Championship winning
Melbourne Monarchs during the '92/'93 season then immediately retired
as a player to take up a role as Hitting Instructor with the Monarchs.
During his playing career Brett won both the National Batting Title and
the coveted Helms Award to become one of a select few to achieve both.
Brett has spent many years as a coach at Club, State & National levels
and over the last decade has continued to be actively involved. In recent
years Brett has also worked at the MLBAAP as the Outfield Co-ordinator.
Brett also represents the Baltimore Orioles organisation as a scout, a
position he has held for over 15 years.
